Oil screen NX250

Beitrag von FazerAce »

I use my xl250 degree for green lanes, so the clutch gets a hard time. Was wondering if anyone has cleaned or swapped out the oil screen. Is it worth doing, and how easy it it to get to?

hi,
the oil screen is only intended to keep larger metal particles away from the oil pump, fine abrasion goes through and ends up in the oil filter. If at all, change the oil filter more often. The screen only needs to be cleaned after an engine failure.

Otherwise I would only clean the screen when the clutch cover has to come off anyway - when changing the timing chain, for example.

I’ve done it on my NX250 a while back. It’s actually not that hard to get to — you just need to remove the right engine cover. The screen itself rarely gets fully clogged, but if you ride hard or on dirty trails, it’s definitely worth checking. Mine had some fine debris after years of use, so I just cleaned it and reinstalled. Just make sure to replace the gasket if it looks worn.
