NX 650 1990

Bike bought last year from 1st owner with 15000 km who bought it new on his first retirement day.
This gentleman is now almost 93 years old and the engine has stood still for about 4 years.

Decided to completely disassemble, clean and where necessary NOS overhaul and anti-rust treatments.
70-80% is still in new condition. Never had a bike that took so many hours cleaning and polishing to get it original patina.

Currently building part by part to go on tour next year.

Thanks to scrambler who shares his knowledge on various sites worldwide, most helpfull by the rebuild.

Hello Anton,
welcome to the club :). It's always nice to have a new Dutch fan in our forum here - we already got a couple (see above - Sanders, Floris, Horst and others). Maybe we should have a NX meeting in the Netherlands sometimes?

This is a real gem that you built on - both thumbs up! I am always happy when someone restores an NX so beautifully. And I like the very rare frame color G120 urban green and the color of the fairing PB182 blue pearl - a very typical color combination of the 90s. It's a Sparomi built in 1990 (spar-omi means: cheap granny;) - because the first 1988 Dominator was nick-named granny and by 1990 Honda was cuttings costs) By the way, I don't have a nice picture for my documentation viewtopic.php?f=22&t=964 of this particular color. If you could take a picture against a neutral background that would be great.

No data in my honda workshop manual 88/89 of the off-set rear rim, so taken the measurements before parting the wheel. 1990 type has the disk brake..
26mm and 28mm.

Searched for the 1990/1991oem workshop manual for over a year, not found until now.

Rims and hubs are like new after a polish. Wheels will get NOS spokes and bearings.

Tires will be Michelin Anakee Adventure front 90/90 and rear 130/80. Why ? Advised by expert Wim from Boks Motyre in Duiven near the border.

There is no offset - spokes left and right have the same lenght but on each side there are two different lengths viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1729&start=10 The spokes on the inside are 210mm long, the outer spokes are 212mm long.

Good choice ;) I heard very good things about the Adventure, especially on wet roads.

The XR650L was introduced in 1993, so it's kind of successor of the 1990 NX650. To be more precise, the engine developed for the XR650l was then used in the NX650 from 1993 onward.
