My bike has actually has been imported by someone around 2010 from Germany to Finland where I live - does anybody know if the 1988 model (J model I think) had a catalytic converter in exhaust system? I thought not, but couldn't find exact answer anywhere.
Hello,
welcome to the club. Luckily, the exhaust of the NX250 doesn't have a catalytic converter - the 1988 NX250 didn't even have to meet emissions standards at all. Silencers are available from MSR/Marving, Arrow and Turbokit https://www.ebay.de/sch/i. html?_from=R ... &_udlo=80
There are also cheaper ones from Greece https://www.car.gr/parts/view/7097706-h ... moto-sport , but they are not that easy to obtain.

Hello, the Greek exhaust systems need to be converted. you cannot use them because the holders for the supporting rear frame are missing.

Thanks for the answers! Good to hear there are still some valid alternatives available, as OEM parts are becoming increasingly extinct, at least in case of exhaust.
